Massive protests outside Police Headquarter in New Delhi


Massive protests have erupted in the capital on Sunday seeking justice for the five-year-old Delhi girl who was brutally raped and is battling for life at AIIMS.

5-year-old girl who was abducted and brutally raped in Delhi, is now stableProtestors demanding punishment for policemen for their insensitivity in dealing with this case and asked resignation of Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar for failing to control the crimes in the national capital area.

Activists belonging to Aam Aadmi Party, Lefts, BJP wings and general public gathered outside Delhi Police Headquarters since morning and humming slogans against them.

The protests also took place also outside AIIMS, and residence of Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde and Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit,

 Sushilkumar Shinde has indicated that there will be shake-up at topmost level of Delhi Police after series of incidents and Police in-action.

“I have ordered an inquiry into the two recent incidents- what happened to Mamata Banerjee at the Planning Commission and the case of some people entering my house. Action will be taken against those found responsible for it,” Sushilkumar Shinde told reporters outside Rashtrapati Bhawan.

Protesters have gathered outside the residence of Congress chief Sonia Gandhi in the afternoon.

More clash between police and public is expected in the evening as Delhi government has imposed Section 144 at India Gate due to security reasons and a large gathering is expected there to continue their protest.

CPI-M leader Brinda Karat on Saturday demanded severe punishment of the Delhi police officials who refused to lodge the FIR on April 15 when 5-year-old girl’s parents approached them to register she was missing.

“The role of the Delhi Police in this entire incident has been absolutely outrageous and highly objectionable. Instead of immediately lodging the FIR and providing help to the family, the police did the opposite,” said Brinda Karat.

Congress President Sonia Gandhi demanded action against the increasing abuse against women in the country.

“She (Sonia Gandhi) has appealed to the government and the administration that action and not words are required to ensure that such incidents never happen again in future,” party general secretary Janardan Dwivedi informed reporters.

Leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, Sushma Swaraj demanded death penalty for the rapists.

“This is a sickening mentality that is emerging now. The new (anti-rape) law that has been passed needs new provisions. First, those who rape minors should get death penalty. Secondly, the brutality of the rape should also be taken into account. Once a few hangings take place, hopefully people like these would get scared. And don’t take months for action; it should be immediate,” Sushma Swaraj said.

Meanwhile police has detained prime accused in raping five-year-old girl, Manoj Kumar from Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district.

The 22-year-old accused reportedly abducted the girl and brutally raped her for two days.

The girl is battling for her life at AIIMS. According to the doctor her condition is now stable and she is responding to the medical treatment.
