Prime Minister Manmohan Singh expressed his unhappiness over CBI raids on DMK leader MK Stalin’s house in Chennai on Thursday.
“The timing of the raid is unfortunate. The government didn’t do it. We will find out who is responsible,” Manmohan Singh said.
Minister of State in the PMO V Narayanasamy who is also in-charge of the CBI has spoken to Sonia Gandhi. The government has asked CBI to explain why it conducted raids without documents and permission.
“The CBI action is political vendetta,” DMK leader Stalin said in Chennai.
Finance Minister P Chidambaram said he “strongly disapproved” the CBI’ raid.
“Normally I don’t comment on the functioning of another ministry or department but I am dismayed and have conveyed it to the concerned minister” Chidambaram said.
“I cannot reply to your imagination. It may be a case of political vendetta or may be not. If central ministers say they were not aware of the raids, then we will have to believe them. It is not proper for me to speculate,” DMK party chief M Karunanidhi said.
The ‘timing’ has itself raised severe questions on government’s intention and its alleged (mis)using of the CBI on its political rivals. It is noted that DMK has pull out from the UPA government only two days back over Sri Lankan Tamils issue.
