Prime Minister Manmohan Singh met Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Sunday in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meeting and raised the issues of terrorism and Ceasefire violations at the Line of Control.
This was Dr. Singh’s first bilateral meet with Pakistan’s new elected Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
Manmohan Singh strongly emphasized the need of reducing tension at the LOC to go ahead with further constructive dialogues. He urged Pakistan to maintain peace and tranquility along the border and take actions against the terror groups which act against India.
Talking to the press India’s National Security Advisor Shiv Shankar Menon claimed that the meeting was successful.
Both the countries agree to ask the Directors General of Military Operations to take effective measures to reinstate the ceasefire at the LOC in Jammu and Kashmir.
“They decided to task the DGMOs to suggest effective means to restore the ceasefire,” said Menon.
In a little over an hour meet both the Prime Minister accepted each other’s invitations but no timeline has been set.
