West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee has find herself in Time magazine’s 100 most influential people of the world on Wednesday. Didi did not waste time and dedicated this honour to “Ma, Mati, Manush.”
“I don’t care about conspiracies. I dedicated the Time magazine inclusion to the people of Bengal,” Mamata said.
Time magazine which released 100 Most influential people in the world in 2012, describes her as “mercurial oddball and a shrieking street fighter” and listed her with people who inspire us, entertain us, challenge us and change our world” which includes US President Barack Obama, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, legendary investor Warren Buffet and Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg.
“But ultimately she proved to be the consummate politician. Through successive elections, Banerjee steadily expanded her power base while chipping away at those of her opponents,” the Time magazine said.
Time magazine also listed another Indian in the list – advocate Anjali Gopalan. Beyond the courtrooms, Anjali runs an orphan home for HIV-positive people.
“Through her work at the Naz Foundation, Gopalan, 54, has done more than anyone else to advance the rights of gays and the transgendered in India, successfully petitioning the courts to get rid of a British-era law against sodomy,” Time magazine admires.
