Main accused of Delhi rape case Ram Singh commits suicide

Main accused of notorious Delhi gang-rape, Ram Singh committed suicide on Monday in Tihar Jail. He hung himself using his own clothes around 5am today morning.

He was taken to the hospital but declared dead soon after arrival. The body was sent for postmortem.

“Singh was not alone in the cell. Other inmates were present and a guard was also posted. But nobody came to know about it. Around 5am, he was found hanging,” a Tihar jail official informed.

Thirty three-year-old Ram Singh was oldest among six accused in the Delhi gang-rape case. He was the bus driver in which the 23-year-old paramedical student Amanat’ was raped. She died on 29th December in a Singapore hospital.

“I’m not very thrilled with the news that he killed himself because I wanted him to be hanged … publicly. Him dying on his own terms seems unfair. But, oh well, one is down. Hopefully the rest will wait for their death sentence,” 20-year-old brother of Amanat told Reuters.

Ram Singh’s suicide has raised several questions on the security inside the Tihar jail.
