With current BJP president Rajnath Singh is likely to resign from the post as he has inducted into Narendra Modi-led Cabinet at theCentre, Himachal Pradesh BJP prabhari JP Nadda is set to become the next party President.
“Discussions are still on within the party to choose a suitable replacement to Singh. The announcement might take some time,” a BJP leader told a daily.
BJP leaders are currently consulting with RSS leaders on this issue. BJP’s three general secretaries — Ananth Kumar, Dharmendra Pradhan and Thawarchand Gehlot — have also joined the Modi government and will resign by the end of week.
Former RSS pracharak Nadda is close to Narendra Modi. He enjoys cordial relationships with all senior party leaders as well as he served responsibility as BJP’s youth president in 1990s. Known for his organizational skills since ABVP days, Nadda handed various important responsibilities in his career. He also won several assembly elections and served as minister of the state.
Along with Nadda, BJP general secretary Amit Shah’s name is also emerging as the probable candidate to take charge as the BJP President. Amit Shah has been credited for party’s empathic win in the recently concluded Lok Sabha polls in Uttar Pradesh. Shah is Modi’s closest aide in the party and considered to be a tough contender to claim the post.
While Nadda keeps a low-profile in the party, Amit Shah is known for back-room strategy and high-profile job.
“Even if Nadda becomes the chief of the party, he would be easily overshadowed by Amit Shah, who has suddenly become immensely popular among party cadre,” another BJP leader said.
