AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa, on Saturday morning, sworn in for the fifth time as Tamil Nadu chief minister, around eight months after she was forced to quit over corruption and other charges.
Governor K Rosaiah administered the ceremony at the Madras University Centenary Auditorium. Actor Rajinikanth, ICC Chairman N. Srinivasan and Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan were among the dignitaries who attended the ceremony.
Along with Jaya or Amma as she is fondly known, 28 others were also sworn in as Ministers. Jayalalithaa is scheduled to hold the portfolios of the home, police, public, all India services, general administration and district revenue officers. Just a day ago, the 67-year-old veteran was re-elected as legislature party leader, at a meeting of party MLAs at its headquarter. This happened around 11 days after she was acquitted by the Karnataka HC in a ‘disproportionate assets’ case.
Meanwhile, she has retained her old faces when she was the CM during the tenure 2011-14. This includes her trusted aide O Panneerselvam as Minister of Finance (the acting CM in her place), Natham RViswanathan as Electricity Minister and R Vaithilingamas Housing Minister, Edappadi K
