According to some media reports the Government of India is preparing an ordinance to keep all political parties out of the ambit of the Right to Information Act which is earlier suggested by the Chief Information Commissioner.
The government is consulting with legal heads and other political parties on the ordinance.
The Chief Information Commissioner proposed that all political parties should come under the ambit of the RTI Act to provide greater transparency. CIC said through RTI public can get information regarding the functioning and funding.
As expected, political parties have criticised the CIC move.
“Congress party is opposed to the decision taken by CIC. Political parties are not government bodies,” party spokesperson Janardhan Dwivedi had said.
“The CIC has acted outside its jurisdiction. The government should step in. CIC doesn’t understand the politics of this country,” JD(U) chief Sharad Yadav had said.
