Ignoring China’s frown, India on Tuesday announced to help Vietnam’s defence modernization, which will surely irked Beijing.
Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung met Narendra Modi on
Tuesday in New Delhi and get assurance for help in security and economy.
“Our defence cooperation with Vietnam is among our most important ones. India remains committed to the modernization of Vietnam’s defence and security forces. This will include expansion of our training programme, which is already very substantial, joint-exercises and cooperation in defence equipment. We will quickly operationalise the $100 million line of credit that will enable Vietnam acquire new naval vessels from India,” Narendra Modi said after the meeting.
India made it clear that it will not bow down under China’s pressure and will actively engaged in Asia Pacific region.
“My government has promptly & purposefully intensified our engagement in Asia Pacific region, which is critical to India’s future,” Modi tweeted.
To meet Vietnam’s demand, India is also ready to sell the short range cruise missiles Brahmos to Hanoi.
