The political temperature is rising as ruling BJP and prime opposition Congress are set to take on each other at the Parliament on the issue of Sunday’s sudden NSA-level talk between India and Pakistan in Bangkok.

This dramatic news came after the National Security Advisors of India and Pakistan held a secret meeting and discussed wide range of issues including security, terrorism and Kashmir.

According to the sources the green signal for this meeting was given by both the Prime Ministers – Narendra Modi and Nawaz Sharif – when they briefly met in Paris last week. This could also confirm PM Modi’s strategy to visit Pakistan next year for the SAARC summit.

The joint statement said the discussions “covered peace and security, terrorism, Jammu and Kashmir, other issues including tranquility over the Line of Control”.

While former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah welcomed the meeting, Congress has been red faced and blamed government for its “flip-flops” policy over Pakistan.

“Paris was more than the officially termed “courtesy meeting”. Good to see India & Pakistan resume the dialogue process,” Omar Abdullah tweeted.
However, Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari said, “It’s a grand betrayal. It’s a betrayal of everything that this government has ostensibly, publicly espoused.”
