A day before the crucial Monsoon Session of Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached out to the opposition and asked to ‘keep national interest above anything else’.
“GST is of national importance. Issue is not which government gets credit. Important Bills, including GST will be taken up in the monsoon session and I hope for meaningful discussions and outcomes,” he said in an all-party meet where 45 leaders from 30 parties were present.
“All of us represent both the people and parties and let’s keep national interests above everything else,” the Prime Minister said.
The Congress promised not to block any bills if they had merit.
“We have not taken any decision that we have to stop a bill. We will support on merit. We will support any bill which is in support of people, progress and growth,” Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad said.
“We want a concrete draft proposal from the government on GST. If we know how they plan to address the three contentious issues, we can revert,” Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia said.
