As veteran social activist Anna Hazare’s indefinite fast Bill in Ralegan Siddhi for the strong Lokpal reached third day, the government indicates that it will introduce Lokpal Bill in Rajya Sabha tomorrow.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamal Nath has said that the government is not considering curtailing the Winter Session of Parliament as Lokpal Bill is the top priority.
“Our priority is to pass the Lokpal Bill. The Lokpal Bill has to be taken in Rajya Sabha, then it will come to Lok Sabha,” Kamal Nath told reporters.
“At the moment all the speculations and the media reports are not true. There is no plan at the moment to curtail the session,” he added.
Union Minister V Narayanasamy said government will take every step to ensure passing the Lokpal Bill in the current winter session of the parliament.
“Opposition parties are not allowing the House to function. Therefore, as soon as the House comes to order, the government will take Lokpal Bill on a priority for discussion and voting. Therefore from the government side, we have done everything, we are ready to pass the Bill as early as possible,” Narayanasamy said.
“In the Lok Sabha, it was passed. As far as the Rajya Sabha is concerned, it went to the select committee of the Rajya Sabha. Select committee gave thirteen recommendations which have been accepted by the government. The Cabinet approved and then I requested the chairman of the Rajya Sabha to take up the Bill for discussion. It is pending in the Rajya Sabha,” he said.
Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde also echoed the same.
“The select committee has given 13 amendments and all of them have been approved. V Narayanasamy (MoS in the PMO) has requested the Chairman to take up the Bill on priority,” Shinde said.
Meanwhile NCP has said it will support the Lok Pall Bill but Samajwadi Party said it will oppose in its current format.
