In wake of Northeast protest over 19-year-old Arunachal Pradesh student Nido Taniam’s death in the heart of the capital, today the government of India has set up a six-member panel to address the address concerns of people from that region.
The panel consist former IAS officer MP Bezbaruah (head), Former IAS officers HWT Syeim, Allen Temshi Jamir, Tape Bagra, P Bharat Singh and deputy secretary in ministry of home affairs S Saha.
The committee will submit their report within 60 days after probing the issue of discrimination of Northeast people in the other parts of the country and its possible causes and remedies.
This comes just days after Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi has assured the North-East students that government will take measures to end harassment of people from Northeast.
A North-East delegation has earlier met Rahul Gandhi and Sushilkumar Shinde in Rahul’s residence.
Earlier on Wednesday deputy secretary of MHA’s Northeast Division Ajay Kanoujia told has told reporters that government is setting up a panel addressing the North-East grievance.
“It has been decided to constitute a committee to look into various kinds of concerns of the persons hailing from the Northeast, who are living in different parts of the country, especially metropolitan areas, and suggest suitable remedial measures, which could be taken by the government,” said Ajay Kanoujia.
