After fuel price hike, the government is now ready to battle out with FDI in aviation industry.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh may give the green signal to Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in aviation in today’s meeting of Cabinet committee on economic affairs.
Aviation sector is demanding FDI for long as the sector is struggling for money. Kingfisher and SpiceJet may expect good news with this decision.
Currently, the foreign investors who are not associated with aviation business can only buy up to 49% stake in domestic airlines in India. However, with clearing the FDI in aviation, it will allow foreign airlines to invest directly into Indian aviation industry.
Earlier this year the government had initiated the process but Mamata Banerjee’s TMC opposed the move.
