The sports ministry has set up a new committee headed by former chief justice of Punjab High Court justice Mukul Mudgal to review draft of National Sports Development Bill.
The ministry has reviving the bill after 18 months since the cabinet has rejected it.
It has been speculating that government wants to control cricket board.
“The bill is being reviewed to bring transparency in the functioning of the national sports bodies and overcome the opposition to the proposed legislation by state governments,” sports ministry issued a statement.
The ministry wants Mudgal committee to look into possibility of forming separate constitutional bodies for different boards with mandatory registration with government and to check the rules to implement the National Sports Development Bill.
Mudgal committee will also examine retirement age and rules for members of sports bodies. It will also check the guidelines of National Anti-Doping Agency.
