In its first major political showdown after the Lok Sabha Polls, the NDA government has reportedly asked six Congress-appointed governors to quit from their post.
The media reports claimed that Union home secretary Anil Goswami has contacted six governors including West Bengal governor M K Narayanan, Kerala governor Sheila Dikshit, Rajasthan governor Margaret Alva, Gujarat governor Kamla Beniwal, Maharashtra governor K Sankaranarayanan and Tripura governor Devendra Konwar to submit their resignation.
However, the sources are telling that one governor has turned down the suggestion and it is likely that the issue will end up in court.
The NDA government is doing the same thing which the UPA government did when they came in the power in 2004. Then Manmohan Singh government asked all BJP-appointed governors to put in their papers.
