A furious Election Commission asked for an FIR against Gujarat Chief Minister and BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on Wednesday for waving the party symbol after casting his vote in Gujarat. The EC also slammed the electronic media for telecasting Modi’s press conference where Modi was seen flaunting Lotus, BJP’s symbol.
The EC asked Gujarat poll body to provide a compliance report by 6 pm on Wednesday and take all necessary steps against Modi and the media under Section 126 1(B) of the Representation of the People Act which says no candidate can display election material 48 hours prior voting.
Earlier in the day both Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party objected to this.
Meanwhile former CEC TS Krishnamurthy disputed EC’s view by saying, “It is difficult to prove that he was campaigning. I am doubtful that it can be held as a violation.”
