The famous Kedarnath shrine was badly hit and almost submerged in mud as the floods in UIttarakhand wreck havoc. More than 50 people died and over 6000 stranded there. The death toll could rise as many have been reported missing.
“We are right now concentrating on rescuing those who are alive,” Kukhimath Sub Divisional Magistrate Rakesh Tewari told reporters.
The Kedarnath shrine is one of the ‘char dham’ for Hindu deities. According to the latest reports, the compound of Kedarnath temple was damaged severely. The structure however not damaged.
The Ram Bada area, Sankaracharya temple and Bharat Sevasram Sangha Guest house are completely submerged in mud and water.
More than 2,500 in Hemkund Sahib and over 8,000 in Badrinath are also stranded.
