Another embarrassment for Congress-led UPA government as the eminent jurist Fali Nariman has refused to be a part of Lokpal search committee.
In a letter to the Prime Minister, senior Supreme Court advocate Nariman has said Lokpal selection process is ‘ludicrous and farcical’.
“I decline the honour. In my humble view this is no way in which an institution as vital and as important as the Lokpal (should) be constituted,” Nariman wrote in the letter.
After BJP had raised objection to a panelist PP Rao, who was accused of being pro-congress, Nariman’s refusal will surely add more pressure on government’s attempt to create credible Lokpal search committee.
Headed by former SC judge KT Thomas, the search panel comprises of eight members including Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar, Supreme Court Judge H.L. Dattu, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj and Jurist P.P. Rao.
The Lokpal will investigate corruption allegations against all Members of Parliament and central government employees.
