After successful completion of the nine-phase Lok Sabha polls, now it is time for India to get its new government at the centre. Although the results will be announced on 16th May, the Exit polls across media have given their verdict soon after the polls officially ended.
According to the surveys, one big picture is emerging and that is that BJP-led NDA would come back to power after a decade. Whether they will get the magic figure of 272 or finished close to it that is the only debatable questions as per all these exit polls are concerned.
The another unanimous factor which is emerging from the exit polls is that while BJP is heading towards its best performance under the leadership of its Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, the Congress party will face rout and may end up doing worst ever performance since independence. It will even get lesser seats than Indira Gandhi got in historic 1977 elections after emergency. The results would be a big blow to Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi.
According to CNN-IBN-CSDS-Lokniti post-poll survey the BJP-led NDA is expected to get a clear majority with 270-282 Lok Sabha seats. The BJP alone would get 230-242 seats. The ruling UPA is expected to get 92-102 seats and Congress to end up in double digit with getting just 72-82 Lok Sabha seats.
The Times Now-ORG poll also indicated NDA’s return to power. It said NDA may win 249 to 265 seats – well within its reach to form next government.
The News 24-Today’s Chanakya poll gave the NDA 340 seats and BJP alone 291 seats – a clear majority for a single party since 1984.
ABP News-Nielsen also suggested NDA’s come back with clear majority. It had predicted 281 seats for Modi-led NDA.
C-Voter India TV gave BJP alone 249 seats and NDA to get 289.
While BJP has welcomed the exit polls results, Congress rejected it by saying that exit poll results almost never matched and they would like to wait till 16th May.
“You are not projecting a wild expectation of us, we will give much better in results on Friday. As the NDA, we will get more than 300 seats,” said BJP leader Prakash Javadekar.
“I am not prepared to accept that the exit polls have clearly demonstrated what the Election Commission’s poll is going to demonstrate on May 16 and I’m in no hurry,” Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar told a TV challenge.
If the exit polls turn out to be true then it’s a clear mandate in favour of Narendra Modi. India has voted and we will get the accurate results on this Friday. But till then its sanctuary for the psephologists, poll pundits and TV channels.
