The BJP and PDP will soon be forming a government in Jammu and Kashmir. The first official word on the government formation came in on Tuesday, after the PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti and BJP president Amit Shah met. The meeting in Jammu Kashmir was to give final touches to the Common Minimum Programme (CMP), following which they announced their alliance in a press conference.
The political stalemate that had been going on for some days, was ended in the meeting, and Mehbooba Mufti said in the press conference, “Keeping in mind, the development and aspirations of J&K people, we have formulated an agenda of alliance between BJP-PDP. This alliance is not for power sharing but to win the hearts and minds of people of J&K,” as quoted by The Times Of India.
The two parties had a contradictory stand on two crucial issues – Article 370 and Armed Forces Special Powers Act and had been discussing thoroughly on the matter, details of which had been kept firmly confidential.
BJP party president Amit Shah confirmed that the two parties had reached some sort of consensus on the common minimum program after a lot of discussions.
PDP chief Mufti Mohammed Sayeed will be heading this new government and the swearing-in ceremony is likely to be held in the month of March.
PDP had bagged a majority in the assembly polls that took place in December last year, with 28 seats, while the BJP had secured 25, in the 87-seat assembly.
