DMK chief M Karunanidhi has suspended his son and party’s South Zone secretary MK Alagiri from the party.
DMK general secretary K. Anbazhagan has informed media that former Union Minister Alagiri has been suspended for violating party discipline and the decision was taken “interests of the party”.
“The members should accept this decision taken in the interests of the party and should stand united for the functioning of the party,” K. Anbazhagan said on Friday.
“His continuation is inappropriate as it will further disrupt the party discipline,” he added.
The news comes at the time when there is a rift in the party over the possible alliance with Vijaykanth’s DMDK.
With Alagiri’s suspension, Karunanidhi has tried to seal off the Stalin-Alagiri succession row and given out a strong signal that his younger son MK Stalin will take over the reins of DMK in coming days. Earlier Alagiri had told a Tamil news channel that except his father he would not accept anyone as the DMK chief.
