Congress has suspended senior party leader TH Mustafa for blaming Rahul Gandhi for party’s poll debacle in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections. Slamming Rahul’s leadership, senior Kerala leader TH Mustafa demanded his resignation as Vice President of the party.
“Rahul behaved like a joker and that’s the reason why the Congress suffered a major reversal in the Lok Sabha polls. The role of a prime minister is not child’s play and the people knew it and handed out the worst defeat to the Congress party,” Mustafa told reporters in Kochi.
“He should take responsibility and quit and if not he should be removed and Priyanka Gandhi should be made the new president of the party,” he added.
“His (Rahul’s) mad style of working using computer and internet and in the company of a group of CWC members who only praise whatever he does has caused this defeat. It’s unfortunate that even AK Antony belongs to this group,” Mustafa further said.
The Congress suspend Mustafa by saying he could have criticised in the party, but not in public.
“Everyone has the right to say who they would like to see at what position, but Sonia Gandhi and Rahul took the responsibility of party’s poll debacle and tendered their resignations. Even after that use of such language is condemnable,” said Congress spokesperson Sanjay Jha.
Reacting to his suspension, Mustafa said, “Now I think I am a free man and can express anything. There is no hindrance on me and no one can stop me or force me now and I am proud that I remained a true Congressman till the end.”
