Another big development came in from Maharashtra as its Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan resigned Friday evening. This move comes in as the Congress is now left to minority. Nationalist Congress Party had withdrawn its support from the Congress Party yesterday after which demands for a Presidential rule were made.
Earlier today, the Bharatiya Janata Party met Governor C.V. Rao. During this meeting, the BJP had asked the governor to apply Presidential Rule in Maharashtra. After the NCP took back its support, the Congress in Maharashtra has become a minority party. Previous evening, the NCP had taken back its 62 MLA’s.
Reports claim that although Prithviraj Chavan has resigned from his Chief Ministerial position, he will contest the state assembly elections. He is supposed to file his nomination tomorrow and he will be contesting elections from Karad in Maharashtra.
Now that Prithviraj Chavan has put into his papers as the CM of the state, Presidential rule may get applied in Maharashtra. Both NCP and BJP have made these demands to the Governor which is being deliberated.
Meanwhile, Shiv Sena has released its list of another 24 candidates. By this move of the party, it is clear that it is in full form to fight the upcoming state elections. Shiv Sena and BJP too split yesterday.
For the first time, Maharashtra is going to witness a five cornered election with parties fighting solo. Tomorrow is the final day of filing the nomination papers for the elections. And very soon, campaigns will begin. The tussle for Chief Minister’s chair is going to be interesting to monitor this time as all parties will put in their best to win the elections.
