China said on Friday that it is ready to resolve the border dispute with India.
Welcoming India’s national security advisor Shivshankar Menon in Beijing, Chinese special representative Yang Jiechi said through this 16th round of border talks with India, China will try to find a amicable solution to this long-stranded dispute.
“I stand ready to work with you to build on the work of our predecessors and break new ground to strive for the settlement of the China-India boundary question and to make greater progress in the China India strategic and cooperative partnership in the new period,” Yang Jiechi said.
Yang said Premier Li Keqiang’s recent visit to India has started a new bilateral era with India.
“Li’s visit injected fresh and strong momentum into the further development of our bilateral relationship,” Yang said.
He also recalled Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Chinese President Xi Jinping’s meeting at the BRICS summit in Durban earlier this year.
Thanking Yang, Shivshankar Menon said, “You are an old friend and in India you are known for your various contributions you have made to the positive development of our bilateral relations.”
