Ex-Delhi chief minister and Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal is in deep soup after a Delhi court framed charges against him in the Nitin Gadkari defamation case on Friday. However, the court has given one breather to him in form of exemption from personal appearance.
Earlier, the court had asked both the leaders to go for an out of court settlement and finish the matter but reportedly Kejriwal refused to drop the case.
Former BJP president and current Nagpur MP Nitin Gadkari filed the defamation case against Arvind Kejriwal after his name had been included in AAP’s list of India’s most corrupt.
Arvind Kejriwal faces charges under Sections 499 (Defamation) and Section 500 for which the maximum punishment will be two years simple imprisonment.
The trial will begin from August 2.
