The union cabinet has approved president’s rule in Andhra Pradesh and the assembly will be put under suspended animation. Earlier, the Andhra Pradesh governor has also recommended President’s rule in the state.
After the parliament passed the controversial Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Bill, 2013 to create a separate state of Telengana by dividing Andhra Pradesh, the Chief Minister of Andhra Kiran Kumar Reddy resigned in protest of state division.
Both Telangana and Seemandhra leaders have been opposing President’s Rule in the state and requested Congress high command to choose a new Chief Minister. But the senior party leadership in Delhi did not want to take risk prior to upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
The elections for the Andhra and Telangana Assemblies could take place concurrently with the Lok Sabha polls depending on President Pranab Mukherjee’s consent to create Telengana 29 states of India.
