23 people including women and children have been killed in a fierce Bodo militants attack in the Kokrajhar and Baksa districts of Assam in 24 hours. Many are seriously injured.
The Army has been called in and Curfew has been imposed in all of Kokrajhar, Baksa and Chirang districts of Bodoland. Shoot-on-sight orders have also been issued in this region.
All 23 victims who died in the attack are migrant Muslims.
Although the state government has denied any link between the militant attacks and the ongoing Lok Sabha polls, but, one of the three massacres which had taken place in a village witnessed severe violence and the killing of a police constable when the polls were conducted in Kokrajhar on April 24.
“There have been reports of villagers belonging to a particular community leaving their villages seeking safety in adjoining villages in Baksa after the third incident that occurred at Narayanguri and another village,” ADG (Special Branch) Pallab Bhattacharyya informed media.
