BJP MP Vijayvargiya compares colleague Shatrugan Sinha with a dog’s nature

Vijayvargiya was critical of Shatrugan Sinha’s reaction to the results in the Bihar Assembly elections

Bihar: With the dismal BJP results in mind on Monday, Vijayvargiya, a General Secretary of the party and campaign strategist for the Bihar elections, was asked to comment on another BJP MP, Shatrugan Sinha’s remarks about the nature of the results. The actor-turned politician had said late on Sunday, after the polling results, “I am not bragging, but I do feel that when the darling (laadla) of Bihar’s people, the dhartiputra (son of the soil) and the original ‘Bihari babu’ was deliberately sidelined, it definitely had an impact on my supporters and fans,” as he talked about him not being projected as a chief ministerial candidate in the campaign.

Rather than taking improvisation steps, Vijavargiya then went on to comment, “When a car moves, a dog moves under it too, the dog believes that the car is moving because of me. This party is not dependable on one person, it’s a whole organisation and there’s a big hierarchy here. Those who are out of it were on a ‘Maun Vrat‘ and now they are speaking.” Adding to the teeming list of controversies in the Secretary’s kitty, this comment was taken hard by the actor. Shatrugan Sinha had also met up with Lalu Prasad Yadav and to-be Chief Minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar to congratulate them on the victory.

Vijayvargiya, a politician known to stick his foot in the mouth often, has been under the scanner recently for hurling such insults at others, like Shahrukh Khan, for whom he said, “Shahrukh lives in India, but his soul is in Pakistan. His films make crores here but he thinks India to be intolerant.” He had also dismissed the Vyapam scam in Madhya Pradhesh in Junes as a minor, unimportant scandal. Moreover, this is the second instance in the last couple of weeks that a BJP MP has utilised the dog analogy, the first time being by Union Minister VK Singh, who was commenting on the Dalit double murder in Faridabad.

This time around, though, Shatrugan Sinha was fast to reply with another figurative reference. He tweeted, “People want my reaction to Vijayvargiya’s remark. My reaction to small or big flies in any party is “Haathi chale Bihar,….bhaunken hazaar,” referring to the famous idiom, haathi chale bazaar, kutta bhauken hazaar’. The BJP-led NDA suffered a crushing defeat in the Bihar polls, wherein it managed to earn just 58 seats out of 243-member house. Shatrugan Sinha had always been critical of the BJP leadership strata in Bihar, especially he was ‘deliberately sidelined’ from the campaign.

Vijayvargiya had conveniently made this an issue of the actor’s loyalty to the party, continuing on to say, “Shatrughan Sinha’s identity in politics is because of the BJP, and BJP’s identity is not because of him. How much loyal he should be towards the party should be decided by him. Causing loss to the party even when you’ve taken so much from the party, that is for him to decide. I disagree with his behaviour.” He further defended the party’s loss in the election by saying that victory and loss is commonplace in a democracy but what defines a party is the behaviour of its workers after a loss.

As many of BJP’s workers have resorted to a petty blame game in the two days since the results, along with rising pressures from the victorious parties, Shatrugan Sinha concluded, “I can’t say how much difference it could have been, but I can definitely say, some difference would have been there. We could have definitely got more seats than what we got.”
