The BJP has sought stay on the appointment of the next Army chief Lt General Dalbir Suhag.
In a letter to President Pranab Mukherjee, BJP leader Subramanian Swamy asked the President to intervene in the issue and should ask the government to postpone the decision and leave it to the next government.
“The timing of appointment with demoralize the forces. The timing of appointment will ensure Army Chief’s office is politicised,” the letter reportedly said.
The Defence Ministry has recommended Vice Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Dalbir Suhag’s name as the next Army Chief after General Bikram Singh retires.
Earlier BJP leader and former Army Chief VK Singh had accused the Congress led UPA government of violating democratic norms by ‘hurrying’ the appointment of Lt General Dalbir Suhag as the next Army Chief.
“There is still time for retirement of the present Army Chief and the UPA government should not hurry in making any appointment at this point of time,” General (retired) Singh said.
Current Army Chief General Bikram Singh will retire on July 31 this year.
