As the most exit poll surveys predicting the BJP-led NDA to come back to power with thumping majority in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections, the regional parties and former allies have started sending warm signals to the NDA.
Naveen Patnaik’s BJD has indicated an issue-based support to the NDA while Jayalalithaa’s AIADMK has hinted that the party may support the BJP-led alliance.
The exit polls suggest that BJD and AIADMK will dominate Odisha and Tamil Nadu with getting more than 80% seats from their respective states.
Interestingly both the parties have shown keen interest in joining a non-BJP, non-Congress Third Front before the election started. However, after seeing the results they are now shifting their stands and indicated that they would like to work with Narendra Modi-led government.
BJD leader Pravat Tripathi said, “Keeping in view the opinion of the whole country and the state’s interest, there should be no problem in providing conditional support to NDA to form government at the Centre.”
BJD later clarified that the party has not begun talks with the NDA and final decision to be taken after the results.
AIADMK leader K Malaisamy said that the party would like to work with the BJP if the Gujarat CM was appointed as the next Prime Minister.
“Modi is great friend of Jayalalithaa, they may differ politically. If he becomes PM then Madam would like close ties,” he said.
Reacting to the development, BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain said, “After the exit polls the entire country want to join Narendra Modi. We will take everyone together.”
“If someone wants to join us, our doors are always open,” he added.
