Suspected Indian Mujahideen operator Shahzad Ahmed aka Pappu gets life term today in the controversial 2008 Batla House encounter.
A Delhi court last week convicted Shahzad Ahmed of murder of police officer Mohan Chand Sharma and attempt to murder charges.
“He (Shahzad) is held guilty of attempting to cause death of head constables Balwant Singh and Rajbir Singh and causing death of Inspector MC Sharma by firing on them,” the court ruled.
The incident took place at flat number L-18, Batla House at Jamia Nagar on September 19, 2008, just six days after serial bomb blasts in Delhi which killed 26 people and injured 133. After receiving the news of some suspected militants involving the blast, police reached Batla House. Atif Ameen and Mohd Sajid were killed during the encounter and Inspector Mohan Sharma had also killed, head constable Balwant was injured.
