Former Maharashtra chief minister Ashok Chavan could face disqualifications over the paid news case. The Election Commission has summoned him appear before it on May 23. He is accused of giving out the incorrect versions in running the paid news in newspapers during the 2009 Maharashtra Assembly Elections.
Earlier the Supreme Court had rejected Chavan’s plea and said that EC had power to probe candidates’ poll expenses and could even disqualify them.
If proven guilty, EC may disqualify him as an MLA from Nanded for three years and he will also be disqualified if he elected as an MP from Nanded in the just concluded election.
