After the independent MLA Rambeer Shokeen withdrew the support from the AAP government in Delhi on Monday, the Arvind Kejriwal government reduced to minority. To adding its woes, the Aam Aadmi Party government is facing ‘constitutional’ challenge over the ongoing tangle in passing the Jan Lokpal Bill in the Delhi assembly.
With the MLA Vinod Kumar Binny’s expulsion from the party, The AAP is now reduced to 35 with the outside support from Congress and one JD(U) MLA.
Kejriwal who has been threatening to resign if the Jan Lokpal Bill is not passed, had met the Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung on Monday to discuss over the fate of Jan Lokpal Bill.
“If the bill is not passed then I have no wish to continue as the chief minister. I can sacrifice the chair of a chief minister 100 times to wipe out corruption from this country. To establish Swaraj in the country I can sacrifice the chair 1000 times. I haven’t come here to become a chief minister; I have come here to clean corruption from this country,” Kejriwal had said.
Kejriwal had also written a letter to LG complaining against the Delhi Police over their rejection to provide security for an open session of the assembly at Indira Gandhi stadium to pass the Jan Lokpal Bill on February 16.
Delhi Congress has said they can consider supporting Jan Lokpal Bill if the Aam Aadmi Party follows the constitution.
“I have said this earlier as well that the Congress party is in favour of the Jan Lokpal Bill. We are in support of anything that is against corruption,” Delhi Congress Chief Arvinder Singh told reporters.
