Former Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh will fight senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley in Amritsar constituency.
Captain Singh who was reluctant to contest in the Lok Sabha polls has finally bow down to the party and agreed to pitted against Jaitley.
Earlier Captain Singh showed his unwillingness to contest and wanted a local candidature for Amritsar constituency.
“My presence is required across the state and contesting from Amritsar would confine me to a single constituency. If elected, I would not be able to do justice to the people there as compared to a local candidate,” he had said.
BJP announced Jaitley’s name last week in place of Navjot Sidhu who won last two elections from Amritsar.
Meanwhile Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal bats for Arun Jaitley as the deputy prime minister of India. He said Jaitley is the front runner to become deputy prime minister or finance minister of the country.
“If voted to power, he will be deputy prime minister or finance minister,” Badal said at a public rally in Attari.
