Law Minister Jitendra Singh Tomar, on Tuesday, was arrested in connection with the ongoing tussle leading to a chain of disputes over the authenticity of his academic degree.
Information about Tomar’s arrest came soon after senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh tweeted about his detention at around 11 a.m. Tomar has been booked under the charges pertaining to ‘cheating’ and fraud, lately after a university from Bhagalpur in Bihar stated to a Sessions Court that he was not on it’s student admission rolls despite of possessing a degree seemingly issued by it.
Police claimed it had sought Tomar’s time and asked him to join investigation related to the matter on several occasions but the latter had not made himself available. A senior police officer stated that permission from Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung was sought and given, prior to Tomar’s arrest as per protocol.
Delhi Police Commissioner B.S. Bassi remarked that he had absolutely no information about the minister’s arrest. Tomar is to be produced at Saket Court at2 p.m on Wednesday.
