West Bengal Finance and Indutsries Minister Amit Mitra today slammed Tata Sons Chairman Emeritus Ratan Tata over his remarks that there is no sign of development in the state.
“Ratan Tata must have lost his mind. His own companies are adding 20,000 jobs in Bengal, I’m surprised his own companies don’t brief him,” Mitra said.
Ratan Tata on Wednesday had said that moving the Nano factory from Singur West Bengal to Anand in Gujarat was a cautious move which later proved costly.
“In hindsight, it was a prudent decision given the hostile circumstances in Singur. But that move gave us a high negative cost,” Tata said.
“We had to take the decision that we cannot operate in the hostile situation and had to move out the car factory to another state. You can pull the trigger of the gun or take it away. But the head will not move,” he said.
While commenting on his view over the changes in the state in last two years he said, “While driving from Rajarhat, it is unbelievable to see new buildings coming up. But it still looks like a countryside, undeveloped. I do not see much signs of industrial development.”
