M K Alagiri’s absence at the DMK executive committee meet in Chennai on Monday has indicated severe fraction in the party.
Party chief M Karunanidhi’s son M K Alagiri has intentionally skipped the crucial meet in which DMK is going to discuss strategies after withdrawing support from the Manmohan Singh led UPA government.
It was speculated that Alagiri was not happy with party decision and especially his younger brother Stalin’s increasing power in the party. The rift in the party intensified when DMK chief Karunanidhi had indicated that Stalin would be his successor.
