Actor Salman Khan on Sunday attracted outrage and protest over his tweet in support of 1993 Mumbai Bomb Blast accused Yakub Memon, who has filed second mercy plea before the President of India. In just an hour, starting from 2 am, actor Salman Khan tweeted 14 times about this and got several retweets and favorites, before the protests began.
Irked politicians and religious activists went haywire over Salman’s tweets and took it to the streets to display their dismay. Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam called it undermining of judiciary.
Salman’s tweets led to nationwide protests against him and protestors burned his effigies and posters. In Mumbai, BJP activists protested outside his Bandra Residence. However, by then, the security outside Salman’s Galaxy Apartment was leveled up, though, reportedly, Salman was at his Panvel farmhouse.
Salman’s scriptwriter father, Salim Khan, disagreed with his tweet, calling it meaningless and saying his tweet should not be taken seriously as Salman was ignorant about the issue.
Salman then withdrew his tweets after, he said, his father called and said he should retract his tweets as they have the potential to create misunderstanding. He then issued an unconditional appology for “creating a misunderstanding unintentionally”, while condemning those who called his tweets as anti-national.
