The Aam Aadmi Party has rejected current form of Lokpal Bill by saying the bill is powerless and not meets the demand of curbing corruption.
“If we agree to all the proposed amendments made by the select committee, then also the Lokpal Bill not will not be able to curb corruption because people investigating it will not have the power to take action,” AAP leader Prashant Bhushan said.
AAP said that the government Lokpal is a ‘jokepal’ and they will not accept it as the investigations will continue to be under government and it is not making CBI an autonomous body.
“Appointment of Lokpal is in the hands of the politicians who themselves need to be investigated. So we cannot expect fair investigation,” Kejriwal said adding, “The government is not willing to make CBI an independent body. The Lokpal Bill in its current form, won’t send a mouse to jail, forget a politician. This Lokpal will remain under government’s control.”
As Congress and BJP is busy taking credit over Lokpal Bill, AAP accused that government of passing the bill in hurry to give Rahul Gandhi credit before next year’s Lok Sabha polls.
Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi had said that he is positive that the bill will be passed very soon.
“We are 99 per cent there. If we get the support of political parties we can pass this Bill. Lokpal is a matter of national importance, we need other parties’ help,” Rahul said.
He also expressed his anguish that activist Anna Hazare has accepted the government’s Lokpal Bill.
“I am really surprised, how can Anna accept the sarkari Lokpal Bill? Sarkari Lokpal is a ‘jokepal’. Whatever Anna may say, we will continue our fight for Jan Lokpal Bill till our last breath,” Kejriwal said.
