Veteran social activist and Lokpal movement leader Anna Hazare has ended his indefinite fast today after the much-awaited Lokpal Bill passed in the Lok Sabha.
Anna had been on indefinite hunger strike along with his supporters in Ralegan Siddhi for the past nine days demanding that the passage of Lokpal Bill.
Anna thanked the Members of Parliament and select committee for passing the Lokpal Bill with amendments.
“This is a good step against corruption. There will not be 100 per cent control on corruption through the Lokpal Bill but at least there will be some 50 per cent control on corruption. The people will have at least some relief. I hope that this will be made into a law soon,” Anna said.
Anna associate Kiran Bedi also thanked both house of the Parliament to pass the Lokpal Bill.
However, the celebrated moment also did not able to conceal the ongoing rift between Anna Hazare and his former disciple AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal.
Taking a dig at Kejriwal, Anna said, “Unlike some others, we did not take any money from businessmen or foreign donors for this fast. We collected about Rs 1.5 lakh from the common people here for this. We spent about a lakh on the dias.”
“We don’t want the people, those who misuse my name,” Anna added.
