Five DMK ministers – SS Palanimanickam, Gandhiselvan, S Jagathrakshakan, Azhagiri and D Napolean – have submitted their resignations to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday.
“We reiterate our demand for stronger amendments in the US draft in Geneva and a strong resolution to be passed in Parliament. The demands made by DMK were not considered by the central government and thus, there is no change in our stand,” DMK chief Karunanidhi said.
DMK members continue their protest against Sri Lankan war crimes at the parliament. Vasanthi Stanley fainted in the Rajya Sabha while making slogans “we want justice”.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamal Nath said his government is stable and secure.
“It is wrong to say that the image of the government has suffered, the image of the government is related to the work of the government. It has nothing to do with DMK or an ally moving out,” Kamal Nath added.
“No party has challenged us for a floor test. No one has challenged the majority of the government inside or outside Parliament,” he said.
BJP President Rajnath Singh said there is no need to bring a no-confidence motion against as it will fall shortly.
“There is no need for the BJP to bring in a no-confidence motion against the government. Allies will leave it one by one,” he said.
Meanwhile UPA Chairperson and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi met Mulayam Singh Yadav and assured him that party does not support Beni Prasad’s comment on him and seek his continuous support to the government.
After DMK’s pull out, UPA badly need SP and BSP support to run the government.
