12 suspected Jaish terrorists detained by Delhi police in midnight raid

Early on Wednesday, the Delhi police carried out raids at suspected terrorist hideouts in New Delhi and the neighbouring states, detaining 12 Jaish terrorists and successfully busting their terror module.

The raids were carried out following Intelligence Bureau reports suggesting that the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) was planning attacks in the National Capital and other places in which the bureau has been receiving hints since the last two months. The city had previously been on a high alert in March when terrorists had entered India from Gujurat.

Two of the terrorists were engaged in bomb making when they were zeroed down upon by the Anti-terror Unit’s Special Cell in East Gorakhpur area and they disclosed the names of the others during their interrogation.

According to a senior official, it is certain that the five of them were involved, but the rest are being probed. They are all under 30 and were arrested from Delhi, NCR region and Deoband in Uttar Pradesh. An official also revealed that they were a part of a sleeper cell unit planning these attacks and some of them were permanent residents of Delhi or Uttar Pradesh.

According to Hindustan Times, two of the suspects have been identified as Mazahir and Tahir .

All the twelve are now being questioned at the special cell’s headquarters at Lodhi Colony after they were also found with bomb-making equipment.

They were found with one IED (Improvised Explosive Device),  according to Commissioner of Police (Special Cell), Arvind Deep. The special cell has registered an FIR against the suspects for being members of an unlawful group (Unlawful Activities and Prevention Act, UAPA) and under the Explosives Act and for criminal conspiracy.

The crackdown by the Delhi Police began late Tuesday night with five teams conducting raids in Uttar Pradesh and seven in Delhi. As of now, as many as twelve teams of the Delhi Police’s Special Cell are conducting raids in several parts of the national capital and Uttar Pradesh.
