In the latest developments, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) filed an FIR against the prominent comedian Tanmay Bhat, on Monday. The complaint comes in after the latter’s video, in which he has been found to seemingly mock the veteran singer Lata Mangeshkar and cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, went viral.
It certainly has not been welcomed warmly and received its fair share of flak from celebrities and common people alike. While it has drawn severe criticism from celebrities and Twitterati, the party took a step forward by actually registering a case of offence against the All India Bakchod (AIB) associate.
The party ‘Chitrapat’ Sena President, Ameya Khopkar had earlier stated that he would file the FIR at Shivaji Park police station, Dadar. However, a Mumbai Police spokesperson confirmed that a Special Branch was looking into the complaint. Khopkar had also firmly expressed that the video which the comedian uploaded on the social networking site Facebook be pulled down with immediate effects.
The Mumbai Police also confirmed that a request has been sent to Facebook and Google to block Bhat’s video on the internet.
While MNS pitched its protest on Bhat’s video, BJP and Shiv Sena also came forward to only to criticize the video. NCP’s women wing went ahead to stage a protest against Bhatt and the video.
Meanwhile, Bhat has also been criticised by Bollywood stars including Anupam Kher, Celina Jaitley and Riteish Deshmukh.
