Supreme Court to examine Juvenile Justice Act

Supreme Court to examine Juvenile Justice ActThe Apex court agrees to examine the existing Juvenile Justice Act which considers a person as a minor till he is 18 years. Now Supreme Court will decide whether a juvenile criminal can be treated as an adult in severe cases.

On Monday, the Supreme Court accepted the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) which requests lowering the age of a juvenile to 16 years from the current 18 years and trial a Juvenile offender as an adult in extreme cases. The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Centre.

The PIL was filed amidst the revelation that one offender, who was involved in notorious Delhi gang rape case, where a girl was brutally raped and assaulted and later died, claims to be Juvenile and could be free from any punishment under the current Juvenile Justice Act.

The next hearing is on April 3.

About Sprightly Spirit

“I dare do all that may become a man. Who dares more is none”. And all, may be. It may be the vigor. Or the spirit. Or the courage to avoid being “politically correct” or bent. And, ban all averse with immaculate overture of graciously fathomable words firm in views. Subtle. Justifying the undying conscience. Values. Knowledge. And, dares to stay true. True to own. True to the world. And, to the words. With a dream in eyes it exists. In you. In me. In all. The sprite that never shies away. The spirit that never dies!
