According to Forbes’ annual list of the world’s most powerful people, UPA Chairperson and Congress President Sonia Gandhi is the third most influential woman in the world. She is only behind German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff.
In overall ranking Sonia has been ranked on the 21st position. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is on the 28th rank and Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani stands on the 38th position.
Forbes written Sonia Gandhi’s profile “as president of the Indian National Congress, Gandhi heads the ruling political party of the world’s second largest population.”
“Rumors persist of a rift between her and soft-spoken Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, with many expecting Singh to leave office before the 2014 general elections,” it added.
Forbes annual list features Russian President as the most powerful man in the world beating US President Barack Obama. As per the magazine Putin’s recent role in the Syria conflict makes him the most influential leader in the world. Xi Jinping, the general secretary of the Communist Party of China ranked on third position.
Explaing Putin’s advancement to the top position, The Forbes says, “Putin has solidified his control over Russia while Obama’s lame duck period has seemingly set in earlier than usual for a two-term president — latest example: the government shutdown mess. Anyone watching this year’s chess match over Syria and NSA leaks has a clear idea of the shifting individual power dynamics.”
Pope Francis ranked on number four ahead of German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Makel also is the only woman in the top 10.
The Forbes Website says this year’s list includes 17 heads of state, 27 CEOs and 12 are entrepreneurs and 28 billionaires.
