The Supreme Court on Tuesday has turned down Sahara Chief Subrata Roy’s plea and sent him to police custody along with two Sahara directors till the company presents a proposal to refund the money to investors.
Playing the emotional card before the Supreme Court and asking the bench to consider Sahara Business Empire and its 12 lakh employees, the Sahara chief proposed to sell off Sahara properties to refund the liabilities to SEBI.
“We are willing to give bank guarantees in three-four months,” he said adding, “I have faith in you. Punish me if I don’t comply with your order.”
However, the rejected his proposal by saying, “We are not interested in selling the properties, you have been telling us for the last 2 years, it is your headache, you should have done it.”
In his emotional speech today Sahara Chief told the court that for the last 37 years he has never had a blot against him. Folding hands, Subrata Roy asked for apology for failing to appear before the Supreme Court.
But the SC told him, “We respected you, you failed to respect us.”
The Supreme Court snubbed Subrata Roy’s claim of paying Rs 5,000 crore to SEBI.
“You push us to the corner. Had you been serious, this position would not have arrived.”
Subrata Roy had surrendered before the Lucknow Police on Friday in the contempt case in connection of Rs 20,000 crore pay back to investors.
Earlier in the day a man threw ink at Sahara chief Subrata Roy and calling him thief while police was taken him to produce in the Supreme Court. The man who identified himself as Manoj Sharma said he is an advocate from Gwalior. He was later beaten by lawyers and Sahara supporters.
