India’s first homemade aircraft carrier INS Vikrant was successfully launched in Cochin on Monday morning. With 37,500 tonne carrier INS Vikrant, India joins elite club of countries like US, UK, Russia and France, which are capable of designing and building a carrier of its own.
“There is a need for a strong Navy to defend our mainland. We must continue the process of developing indigenous capability to secure our maritime interests,” said Defence Minister AK Antony.
“Normally in Kerala I used to speak in Malyalam but today I am compelled to speak in a foreign language. It is a proud moment for the country. The Navy must continue to maintain high preparedness in waters to ward off any possible threat from water,” Antony added.
