The 23-year-old gang raped victim died on Saturday morning at 2:15 am at Singapore’s Mount Elizabeth Hospital due to severe organ failure. Thus ends the brave-heart girl’s struggle for 13 days.
She was treated at the Safdarjung Hospital for 10 days, but later on December 26, she was taken to Singapore for better treatment as she was not showing improvement.
This paramedical student was gang raped and cruelly assaulted by six men on December 16 inside a bus in Delhi. Her body will flown back to India by tonight.
“We are very sad to report that the patient passed away peacefully at 4.45 am on 29 Dec 2012 (Singapore time). Her family and officials from the High Commission of India were by her side. The Mount Elizabeth Hospital team of doctors, nurses and staff join her family in mourning her loss,” said, Dr Kelvin Loh, CEO, Mount Elizabeth Hospital, in a press release.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh sends his condolence by saying, “I want to tell girl’s family and the nation that while she may have lost her battle for life, it is up to us all to ensure that her death will not have been in vain.”
Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said it is the shameful moment in her.
Pranab Mukherjee, the President of India, said in his condolence message, “I was deeply distressed by the unfortunate demise of the 23-year-old girl.”
All the six accused will now face murder trial.
