A Jodhpur court on today reserved its order on bail plea of self- styled godman Asaram Bapu who was arrested on Monday in a sexual assault case.
In her complaint the 16-year-old girl alleged that Asaram sexually assaulted her inside a room at his ashram near Jodhpur for more than an hour, while her parents were sitting outside performing the “ritual” for her daughter’s well-beings directed by the Ashram.
Asaram Bapu was arrested after high drama in Indore last week and brought to Jodhpur on Monday for questioning. Reportedly he has cleared a potency test and was sent to 14-day judicial custody in Jodhpur Central Jail on Monday.
72-year-old Asaram has been booked under POCSO, along with sections 376, 342, 506 and 509 of the IPC. He has, however, denied the charges.
“It was a big mistake. The day I met Asaram at his Jodhpur ashram was the worst day of my life,” the 16-year-old girl told the media on Monday.
“I hope my best and brightest day will come soon. I want to see Asaram undergoing punishment. This guru shouldn’t be allowed to interact with children,” she said.
“We didn’t realise that Asaram is a demon. We were blinded by faith,” the girl’s mother said.
“Asaram went into his room around 10 pm and called my daughter inside for some pooja. After an hour, he asked her to go out to check if we were still waiting. She came, saw us and went back. When she returned after a while she was shivering. This guru shouldn’t be worshipped, she said,” the mother added.
